Sometimes, the best collections you see at fashion week are from the smaller designers. This is exactly what happened when I went to the Moixa show. Throughout Saturday I had been rushing from presentation to shows and back again, and wanted to squeeze this one in, which was literally around the corner from Fashion Scout. Even though it did run about 45 minutes late in true typical fashion week style, I weirdly ended up front row (no clue how that happened)!! The perfect position to capture the beautiful garments that floated down the runway in the Beautiful Beast: Out of The Woods collection.
Inspired by Nephila, more commonly known as the Golden Orb-web spider, this SS16 collection interprets her web as a shimmering handmade fabric which pulses through the collection.
The collection follows the journey from the spider’s home in the woods to the red carpet. The beautiful handmade web effect on the pieces are combined with cottons and silks to create the texture, colour and curves of a spiders web. Swarovski crystals, beads and stones have been used to represent the sun and moonlight shining through the web. The fabric also represents the intricate, delicate beauty and strength of a spiders web.
Each of the pieces were timeless yet modern, with little details that made a strong statement! Even though some of the pieces were quite revealing, the models’ decency were covered with nude underwear and floral nipple covers. There was also a great mixture between couture gowns and wearable pieces. Digital tree prints created fresh colour interest on tailored jackets, shorts and jumpsuits in-between spindly web-woven mini dresses. The use of different fabrics were also well done with silk camisoles and gold lurex paired with the tree print. As well as being used as overlays over netting, the webbing was also used to make smaller details, including collars and scarves, and also into more structured shapes such a fishtail skirts and the backs of jackets. The woodland colours continued into the block colour formalwear, with structured crop tops and jackets paired with waterfall hem skirts and city shorts. My favourites were definitely the fit and flare dress with webbed sleeves and the final dress.
The hair and makeup could definitely not be ignored in this show! The styled curved baby hairs and gold flecked lips gave a mystical feel to the models, with the gold shadow making the eyes pop and the dewy skin giving almost an immortal effect. Very woodland fairy chic ;)
