Sales haul part 2!

Onto part 2 of my sales haul!

Primark High Waisted Spotty Shorts (similar here and here)

I'm a big lover of all things vintage/retro, so when I saw these 1940's American retro style shorts, I knew I was going to be very happy! Great for now with a pair of tights and a denim shirt, and then as soon as summer comes around I'll ditch the tights and bring out the lace tops! I do have a black spotted shirt as well, and I got really excited as I thought I could create a two piece with it, but unfortunately the spots on the shirt are a bit smaller than the spots on the the shorts :( oh well!

H&M Sequined Playsuit (similar)

Everyone needs a bit of sparkle in their life, and this sequined playsuit from H&M really fits the bill! With fitted high-waisted shorts counteracting the flowy spaghetti strap top, this really makes an impact! It also has a cut out slit at the back to show a bit more skin, and its a very practical choice if you're thinking of going on a night out and its really windy outside (no knicker flashing here thanks very much)! Well, not so practical when you want to go to the toilet, but you catch my drift. It's a good alternative for the LBD, especially at the great price of £15!

New Look Mela Loves London White Faux Fur Coat (currently sold out, but similar here and here)

Usually, white coats are shied away from due to the constant worry of dirt and staining. But I decided to take the risk when I found this white faux fur coat in New Look, as it's such a great way to perk up an outfit in these colder months! Plus, it's all about the coat right now, and hey, who can resist a good warm coat?! With its prim collar and textured fur, I'll be going for a monochrome look with black skinnies and polka dot shirt.

New Look Cream Crochet Top (similar)

I'm a sucker for a lace crochet top, and seeing as I'm pining for summer, this was a great way to getting one step closer to the warmer months! It has a great boho vibe with flowery patterns, and the zip at the back adds a nice detail. Its quite light, so not really practical for right now, but as soon as the weather gets warmer I'll be popping this on with denim shorts and a flower hairband! Peace!

New Look Black Roll Neck Long Sleeve Top (this is out of stock at the moment, but keep an eye on it! Here are some similar ones in the mean time: here and here)

The good old roll neck. The ultimate item that still looks cool even if you're wrapped up like a polar bear. Great for layering under dresses as well as pairing them with skirts. This was a staple that I was happy to purchase when it came around! I'll be wearing it with a leather look skirt, boots and an oversized coat this winter, but the possibilities are endless!

New Look Fox Jumper (again out of stock (you guys obviously loved it), but here is an alternative)

How adorable is this fox jumper?! I saw this originally at full price (£22.99), but decided to leave it and wait, so when I found it at £11, I couldn't resist! I've been after a thin jumper for quite a while, so this one will be great for layering without looking too bulky, and for taking the transition from winter to spring. The fox just tops it off; its so cute (foxes are among my favourite animals)!!! This will be great on its own with jeans and a fedora as well as layered over a shirt or dress.

New Look PU Skater Skirt (similar)

Last but not least, my PU leather look skater skirt. I have a lot of love for the colour, and has a great circle shape that has been making its way down the runways. The material actually feels quite luxurious, and it adds a pop of colour to any outfit. This will look so cute with my new roll neck and brogues, I'm really excited to wear it!

That's it for my sales haul! I've shopped till I've dropped (literally) and have some amazing pieces to show for it! I'm sorry that I don't have many links for the original pieces; sales can be so erratic that you don't know when things are going to be in stick or not! But I hope the alternatives are just as good!

What's your favourite thing that you've bought so far in 2014?

Sales haul part 1!

Hello you gorgeous lot! I always forget how long written haul posts take to write up, so sorry for the wait! This time of year is renowned for its sales, and boy, do I love them! The thrill of finding that perfect item at an incredible price is so great, especially if you've seen it a few months back at full price, but decided not to get it! Sometimes waiting is the best thing! So here's what I got in this year's Boxing Day and January sales:

Topshop Denim Pinafore Dress (similar)

I've been after one of these denim pinafores for a long time, so when I saw this one at £7, I had to try it on! I love the simple style with the little pocket at the front, which is surprisingly good at storing my phone in! This is a great layering piece, and even though it is a tiny weeny bit big around the waist for me, this worry disappears if I’m wearing a jumper or polo neck underneath. I wore this to a house party and styled it with a white t-shirt, cowboy boots and sharks tooth necklace.

ASOS Skater Dress in Floral Print
This is one of my favourite pieces from my haul, as I'm really loving dark floral print this season. The floral print is one of those trends that's still around every season, and so I think it's great when it gets a bit of an upgrade. The dark background makes it feel suitable for winter, and really makes the colours of the flowers pop! I actually wore this for NYE, and did of an outfit selfie so you guys could see how I styled it. If you didn't see it, check it out below:

Vintage Teatime (Woman's Institute), Jessica Simmons
So you know how I love baking...well, I'm starting to build up my selection of recipe books, and this is the new edition to the family! It's filled with both savoury and sweet recipes, and some old favourites like Victoria Sponge, Eccles Cakes & Scotch Eggs. I recently had a girly afternoon tea party with some of my friends, so this will be perfect for next time! Tea dresses optional.

Topshop Petite Jersey Flippy Skirt
Weirdly enough, before getting this, I didn't own a plain jersey black skirt. A staple, in my books, but I didn't have one! Leather, yes. Embellished, yes. Even a tube skirt with gold flecks. I had everything but a plain jersey one! It was particularly hard when I'd be filming as a school kid and I was asked to supply my costume...let's just say I couldn't exactly wear any of my others, if it was a real school I would probably get kicked out! So I solved this problem by snapping up this great one from Topshop for £10! Unfortunately, I don't think it's on sale anymore, but it's still not bad at £16!

Primark Leather Cut Out Dress (similar here and here)

I went a bit crazy in Primark this time. I didn't really shop in Primark that much at the end of last year, so it was like discovering an old friend again after time apart. My mum actually picked out this dress for me, and I fell in love with it as soon as I tried it on! The leatherette bralet top half, the cut out sides, the floaty chiffon skirt...and it makes you feel a million dollars when you wear it! I'll be wearing this in the daytime with an over-sized cardie and brogues, and at night with some chunky heels and a block colour blazer as a cover up.

Primark 90's Crop Top (the only one that I could find that was similar was this one here, but its the real McCoy, so if any of you find a cheaper one, let me know and I'll put it up)
I’ve been slowly building up my collection of these 90’s crop tops over the past 6 months, as they’re such great things to put with separates. I found this little beauty at £1 (!!!), such a steal! You can also dress it up or down as much as you want, so it’s a good job that they’re sticking around for SS14! I’ll be looking to the Proenza Schouler, DKNY & Tommy Hilfiger runways for inspiration during these colder months, with high waisted trousers and only a little flash of waist. Any more skin showing and I would probably turn into an icicle. Not a good look!

I have to say, I absolutely love shopping with my mum! We have similar tastes, and she knows what will look good on me. She goes round picking up things and saying “Oh, this is right up your street!” “Try this on!” and she always turns out to be right! This is what happened when we discovered this top! I adore the little details like the laser cut detail on the bottom and the turned up sleeves. I’ll be wearing this with a tube skirt and lace ups to really showcase that laser cut print.

As I bought quite a lot of stuff over the past month or two, I've decided to section this into two posts, as its taken me a while to type this up so a) I hate leaving my blog empty of posts and b) I literally can't wait for you guys to see it, so I'm being impatient ;)

What did you guys buy in the sales this year?

Dream Wardrobe #4 An Ode To Tartan

I recently joined The Bloggers Lounge, which is a website that helps bloggers like myself make the most out of their blogs, helping to increase their following, and giving them different opportunities, like brand collaborations. They got in touch with me about their first competition of the year, and I'm super excited because they're collaborating with Lyle and Scott, the Scottish knitwear brand! I'm adoring tartan this season, and I seriously recommend you guys check them out for some incredible pieces!

Lyle and Scott were interested in seeing how men and women would style this scarf, so I decided to create a women's look. And here's how I styled it:

Leather jacket- rag & bone
Elbow Patch Jumper- Lyle and Scott
Tartan Snapback Cap- Lyle and Scott
Ripped Skinny Jeans- Boohoo
Wedge Boots- New Look
Crossbody Bag- Forever 21
Necklace- Erickson Beamon

I wanted to go for quite a casual look, but give it a little luxe feel with the gold accessories and heeled boots. I kept the rest of the outfit neutral so that the tartan could really stand out, and I found this awesome tartan snapback that went with it perfectly! Let me know if you like the outfit, and I would love to here how you guys would style the tartan scarf!

Recipe: Lemon Drizzle Fairy Cakes

I’ve been getting my baking hat on! My friends decided to have a girly afternoon tea party as one of our last meet ups before the New Year, and so I decided to make some lemon drizzle fairy cakes for it! They certainly went down well, but I hope you guys enjoy them as much as we did!

The recipe was originally supposed to make 12, but I actually ended making double that! I think it just depends on how much you fill up the cake cases (I did just a little more than halfway to give them space to rise).

Ingredients:
140g unsalted butter/soft margarine, softened
140g caster sugar
3 eggs
100g self-raising flower
25g cornflour
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
1tsp vanilla extract
100g icing sugar, sifted

  1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees. Arrange cake cases in fairy cake tin. Beat together butter, vanilla extract and caster sugar, and then one by one beat in the eggs.
  2. Sift the flour and cornflour into the bowl then fold into the batter until the ingredients are well combined. Stir in the lemon zest. Half fill each cake case with the batter.
  3. Bake for 15 minutes until risen and golden. Allow to cool on a wire rack
  4. Beat together the icing sugar, lemon juice and a splash of boiling water until you have a smooth icing. Drizzle the icing over the cakes and leave to set.

Now enjoy! Let me know if you like the recipe; I would love to see your creations!
