The Lush Cleansers My Sensitive Skin Loves

Lush Ultrabland & Ultraplant cleansers

AD- all products are PR products that have been sent to me previously with no obligation to post.

As you can imagine with sensitive skin, finding products that actually work without turning your face to molten lava (in texture, colour, and hot itchiness) isn't a walk in the park. I've been through many a product that has set my face on fire, so when I find something my skin really loves, I stick to it.

On the run-up to Mother's Day, Lush sent me a box of their limited edition goodies to treat your mum (or yourself), and I fell in love with a cleansing bar called Baby's Bum. I had honestly never come across anything quite like it!

I applied it straight to my face, and the oily consistency melted into my skin beautifully, removing my makeup while giving it the moisture hit it craves. And the joy of all joys, it didn't flare up my skin!

So when I came to write about it and discovered that it was limited edition, and I couldn't allow you guys to get your hands on it too, I popped Lush an email and cried for their help in finding a substitute that would fill Baby's Bum shaped hole in my heart.

Always as helpful as ever (which you'll know if you've been to their stores, they have such ace customer service), they sent me a list and very kindly sent me a few to try out.

The two cleansers they sent my way were the Ultrabland and Ultraplant cleansers. I had already heard so many people rant and rave about the Ultrabland cleanser, but I had never tried it before, and so I decided to roadtest this and it's plant-based sister, the Ultraplant.

ULTRABLAND

Let's start with the well-loved original. The Ultrabland is a comes out as a fairly thick cream, but once applied to the skin it seems to thin out as it melts into the skin. The smell isn't exactly my favourite - I find it quite vegetably, but it doesn't mean it's a bad cleanser.

If you're not a fan of an oil cleanser that isn't overly oily, then this is perfect as it has just the right amount of oil to cover and soothe the face without feeling like you're covered in the stuff. I find it leaves a slightly tacky film on the skin and on my fingers after applying, but again this doesn't make me want to through it out the window in disgust!

In the morning, my skin feels soft yet clean, almost like someone has pressed reset on my skin overnight.

ULTRAPLANT

This cold cream cleanser is slightly oilier out of the two, but oh wow does this smell amazing! This has a beautiful floral scent that is very calming, making removing your makeup like being at a spa. The consistency of this is more butter-like, but then it melts into a lovely thick oil.

A little goes a long way, hence the smaller tub, and after you've washed it off you still have an oily layer that almost acts as a serum if you want it to. This one is probably the best dupe in terms of consistency to Baby's Bum cleanser.

The thing I love about this is the difference I see in my skin by the morning. It's visibly more plumper and full of moisture, and really silky smooth, and makes applying makeup a dream.

If I really had to choose between the two, then I would choose the Ultraplant as the smell and the way it leaves my skin feeling the morning after pips it to the post ahead of the Ultrabland, but both are real winners if you have sensitive skin.

  1. I don't have sensitive skin but I would still like to try these out. Do you think they would work for someone with dry skin?
