Sustainable Beauty - The Brands I Love

Sustainable beauty - the brands I love

I'm slowly making a conscious effort to support sustainable brands in my mission to do my bit for the planet. I've got a post coming soon about how I've started to look at different areas of my life to see how I can make some small changes, and one of those areas I'm changing up is my beauty products.

Now I'm definitely not an expert in living a sustainable life - I'm far from perfect and still slip up sometimes, but the small things I do take on will hopefully help in some way.

I've started to take a look at the brands I use and also work with, and am trying to focus my attention on those who are doing their bit to help the planet: from those who are making small changes to those who are completely sustainable.

Now when I take a look at my beauty cupboard, it's starting to be more built up with those sort of brands, so this post will contain a variety of both!

So if you're looking for some new brands to support, or to reaffirm your love with brands that are already long-established, then I've picked out some of my favourite sustainable brands below.

L'OCCITANE Aqua Réotier Mineral Moisture Mask & Almond Hand Cream

L'OCCITANE

L'Occitane is a brand I've worked with for a while now, and I've loved their products long before I started blogging. I can't get enough of the quality of their products, and my skin can't get enough either.

They already offer in-store recycling of all types of beauty packaging (not just their own products) but are also going to start incorporating Loop plastic (which is 100% sustainable as it is made from recycled materials) into their packaging.

Some of my favourite L'Occitane products:
Aqua Réotier Mineral Moisture Mask*
The rest of the Aqua Réotier range (which I use everyday)*
Almond Hand Cream
Immortelle Reset Overnight Serum*

Lush Beiteddine Lipstick

LUSH

Lush is another brand who are leading the way in sustainability. Their packaging is made from recycled materials (with some being able to be composted at the end of it's life) and they offer a take-back scheme for their black pots where you receive a free face mask if you bring back 5 in one go.

They have recently started the 'go naked' choice which gives the customer the opportunity to take home just the products and nothing else. They have also been championing the shampoo bars for a long time, which I've heard so many people rave about.

Some of my favourite Lush products:

Pura Cosmetics Passionfruit Martini lip scrub and balm

PURA COSMETICS

I've been getting back into my lip scrubs thanks to this new brand I discovered at This Morning Live. Pura is the brainchild of Rose, who at just 19 is taking the beauty world by storm.

She has won a huge range of awards and grants in the four years she's been in business, so definitely one to watch. Her lip products are natural, cruelty-free and vegan, and come in a huge variety of flavours with shades that are so vibrant you almost can't believe that they've not used any artificial colouring!

Some of my favourite Pura Cosmetics products:
Passionfruit Martini lip scrub and balm*
Prosecco Bubbles lip scrub and balm*

SheaMoisture Argan Oil and Almond Milk Shampoo and Conditioner

SHEAMOISTURE

One of the few shampoo and conditioner pairings that I swear by for keeping my frizz at bay is from SheaMoisture. This unisex brand, around since 1912, has always used homemade ingredients in their hair and body products.

I love the story behind this brand, with it going back four generations in the family that is committed to producing good quality products free of parabens and sulfates while supporting Fair Trade practises around the world.

Some of my favourite SheaMoisture products:

Grace Serum, Balance Lotion and Relax Bath Salts

CONCEPT SKIN

I met the founder of Concept Skin, Esther, at This Morning Live, and I don't think I've ever met someone so knowledgable and passionate about skincare. Having gained 15 years of experience as a pharmacist and as a pharmaceutical chemist, she really knows her stuff!

After talking to her about my folliculitis, she gave me loads of advice about what I should and shouldn't be using and very kindly gave me some products to try out.

I can honestly say that her products work miracles (you'll probably hear me banging on about them for many years to come) and her Grace serum always clears up any flare-ups of folliculitis I have.

The products are hand-crafted by Esther, are organic and vegan, and contain all-natural ingredients. Also, their packaging is recyclable, but can also be returned to them to refill with a product of your choice.

  1. L'occitane is one of my favourite brand too! And the almond cream is a staple for me. Okay the whole almond range is so good. I wish to try to aqua cream - but I've never seen it in Italy yet!(:
