6 Books I Want To Read This Spring

6 Books I Want To Read This Spring

After finally clambering back onto the reading wagon after so long away, I'm throwing myself completely into books with a new found love.

As you may have read in my reflecting on 2018 post, I've already been keeping on top of my reading goal this year, and I've now moved on to my fourth out of the 15 I want to read.

To keep track of my reading goal I've started up a Goodreads account, and I have no idea why it took me so long to sign up because now I'm fully addicted to it.

It's been really helpful to find new books I want to read as sometimes I can look at my book collection and get a bit overwhelmed, so by adding them to my TBR (to be read) list I'm able to have them in some sort of order to read them.

This was something that I never used to do, but I can now say I've planned what books I want to read over the next few months. Please feel free to be shocked at my organisation, it's scaring me a bit too...

There will be some more reviews popping up on here soon once I've read a few of these, but here are the books that are sitting on my shelf waiting for me to read through the end of this winter into spring.

THE WATER CURE BY SOPHIE MACKINTOSH

THE WATER CURE BY SOPHIE MACKINTOSH

This had been on my reading list for a while, and so when my friend kindly gave this to me as she had two copies, I couldn't wait to get stuck in! I've just started reading it and I'm already hooked at this incredible world Mackintosh has created.

The story follows three sisters as who are raised in a world where being a woman isn't safe, and so they are kept hidden away from everything, including love.

In some reviews that I've read, I've heard this compared to The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (a book that has haunted me from my A-Level English days) possibly due to the dystopian world created that seems to be against women.

AN EDITED LIFE BY ANNA NEWTON

AN EDITED LIFE BY ANNA NEWTON

I have given myself the rule that I would only buy a product by an influencer if it's something I know I would buy if it wasn't by someone I followed, and luckily this book sounded right up my street so it made its way into my basket.

I've always admired Anna's organisational powers and skill to create a capsule wardrobe that suits her sense of style, rather than just copying all the same old ones out there.

This book aims to help you declutter and organise everything from your wardrobe to your phone and the thing that drew me to this book was the fact that it is jam-packed with tips and ideas. No need to worry about empty pages where the author has tried to bulk it out- you seriously get your money's worth.

THIS IS GOING TO HURT BY ADAM KAY

THIS IS GOING TO HURT BY ADAM KAY

Written by an ex-junior doctor who was on the front line of the NHS for 6 years, this book sheds light on what life is really like working for the NHS with all its highs and lows.

I've come across many people reading this and them telling me how heartbreaking some of the parts are, but I think the fact that this book is so blunt and to the point about the situation at hand is what has made it so popular.

I'm excited and a little apprehensive to read this because of its honesty, but I think this needs to be read by everyone to really fully appreciate everything that our doctors and nurses do for us.

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES BY SUE MONK KIDD

THE SECRET LIFE OF BEES BY SUE MONK KIDD

I don't know why this has taken me so long to pick up, seeing as everyone has been ranting and raving about this book for years.

Set in 1960's South Carolina, this follows the story of a young girl called Lily who lost her mother when she was a child and is taken in by a trio of black beekeeping sisters who teach everything about bees and female power.

From the reviews I've read, this book seems to have something for everyone, and that clearly shows in the fact that this is a multi-million-copy-bestselling book!

TSOTSI BY ATHOL FUGARD

TSOTSI BY ATHOL FUGARD

My mum passed this book onto me many years ago, telling me how phenomenal this book was, but in the end, it became buried at the back of my bookshelf until I rediscovered it about a year ago.

Since then, it has sat pride of place in my TBR pile, and this year is going to be the year I read it. This book transports you to South Africa, where we follow a young gang leader as he moves from one vicious crime to another until one night he finds himself holding a baby. This event causes his past to unravel as he relives his own painful childhood and begins to change as a person.

LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE BY CELESTE NG

LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE BY CELESTE NG

A New York Times Top Ten bestseller, Celeste Ng shows us a town where everything is in order and rules are meticulously followed until rule-breaking single mother Mia and her child Pearl move in and start renting a house from the Richardson family.

They are drawn to these strangers but as Mia and Pearl start to cause an uproar, the mother of the family, Elena Richardson, decides to look into Mia's past.

Again, this is one of those books that everyone has been talking about since it came out last year, and I have been so excited to get into this ASAP.

  1. Lovely post Georgie, I like anything book related! I wish you well for your spring TBR, and the list of genres you have included is very diverse. You’ve persuaded me to try An Edited Life, and I’m with you on your thoughts on influencers, I think Anna has some good ideas too! I’ve never heard of The Secret Life of Bee’s, and I would love to hear your thoughts on it after you’ve read it. I’ve been enjoying The Selection series by Kiera Cass and I’m half way through The Crown which is the finale. Happy reading! :-) xx

  3. I find it difficult to read after blogging all day. I don't care for fiction at all but I like true crime and self-help. My shelf or Kindle usually contains books by Anne Rule. Currently I am reading "Coming of Age on Zoloft". I took this at one point and wanted to read someone else's take on it.

  4. Oh, so many interesting sounding books on this list! I'm trying to get myself back into reading, I've failed my Goodreads challenge for the past couple of years ha! This Is Going To Hurt is definitely on my list - I've read a few of a similar style, and they really are so interesting to read. Heartbreaking, but a good insight into what goes on.
