My Winter Reading List

My Winter Reading List

This is the time of year when we have a couple of weeks off and don't know what to do with ourselves. I have to constantly remind myself to do little things like reading otherwise I'd spend my whole time off watching Netflix! I have always been a bookworm, and hoard books like they're going extinct! Even though my Kindle is my travel companion, I miss having a physical book in my hand. When I feel like relaxing, I'm making myself reach for my books more, otherwise I just end up reading them when I go to bed (normally at a ridiculous time) and never really dedicate any proper time to them. I've decided to collate a selection of books to get into this winter- I'm currently reading Gone Girl, but I'm determined to get through as many of these as possible.

This first one is a major proud friend moment. This book is written by the amazing Lucy Sutcliffe, who was originally part of the pair Kaelyn and Lucy. They have sadly decided to part ways, but her memoir shares her story of finding herself and falling in love. I've always supported her and loved watching her life online, even after she moved to the US and I've always been a firm believer that we are all equal, regardless of gender, race and sexual orientation. I'm so excited to read this, well done Lucy!

I've only really got into self help and non-fiction books in the last few years, but after reading #GirlBoss by Sophia Amoruso I was hooked! I completely forgot I had this, but when I discovered it again, I knew I had to read it asap! The full title reads 'How the Courage to Be Vulnerable Transforms the Way We Live, Love, Parent and Lead' and it it honestly me all over! I'm quite a sensitive person who wears my heart on my sleeve, so when I feel vulnerable, I curl up into a little ball and refuse to come back out…this book challenges you  to stop striving to be perfect and to make your vulnerability a strength.

After watching the two films, I was hooked (and slightly terrified) by this series. I actually ordered this before I watched the films, so now I'm ready to see what the author has to offer! The first book of this teenage thriller series follows a group of kids trapped in the Glade, an encampment at the centre of a horrible maze. They don't know why or how they ended up there, but they try everything to make their way out.

The book that everyone has been talking about, and not just for it's title! Another self-help book, this book teaches you to care less and get more out of it using the Not Sorry Method. Again, this book is me to a T. I have started caring less by myself, but I wanted to give this book a go due to how many badass women rated it! Also I can't resist a good hype. Which comes to my last book…

Every Potterhead I know has either bought this, or seen the play, or both! I got this when it was £10 off in Waterstones when it first came out, which made the deal even sweeter. If you really (I mean, really?) don't know anything about this, it picks up the story nineteen years later following Harry and his son Albus as he joins Hogwarts, and struggles with the consequences of being Harry Potter's son. I have heard mixed feelings on this, and one thing I can say before reading or seeing it is that it is a completely different story from the seven others. So if you're imagining a massive Hogwarts reunion, don't hold your breath. However, I don't think it ever needed to be. With the success of Fantastic Beasts that has followed the Cursed Child, I think everyone is starting to enjoy branching out into more of the wizarding world, that isn't necessarily confined to Hogwarts.

My Winter Reading List

That's what I'm going to attempt to get through this winter, and if I get through some of these before I go travelling, I might do a travel reading list! Let me know if you would like that, and if you're reading anything good this winter.
